An oil painting of cornstalks in the fall with pumpkins by a weathered
ladder |
||
How wonderful each fall to see once again the outworking of our loving Creator's promise in Genesis... just one of His promises...the harvest promise!The oil painting depicts some of the common things that delight us when driving through the countryside in the fall. Fields of dry, whitened corn stand out against the colourful backdrop of flaming woodlands. Orange pumpkins of every size, like those in the oil painting, lie scattered over the dark soil...big orange reflectors! Soon all will be safely gathered in, as the beloved hymnwriter put it.Many families take time to enjoy a fall outing of going through a corn maze. The rustle of the matured corn and the excitement of exploring are not soon forgotten.Round pumpkins for Thanksgiving pies.....seeds of pumpkins set out to dry. As children, many happy times were spent by my sisters and I in the big farmhouse kitchen cutting the edges off of the plump seeds of the pumpkins which mom had dried beneath the woodstove. How good the green seeds tasted! The weathered ladder in the oil painting reminds us of simpler times, when things needed were fashioned by our own hands. |
